This is called the Pillar, an ancient tool used to divide intervals into a variety of fractional parts. These fractional parts can then be used as proportional ratios to guide an architectural design. In addition, music is heavily reliant on the use of proportional divisions for notes, keys, octaves, etc. Just though I'd share as it's something I find immensely interesting. The phi division on the left side is the Greek symbol for the "golden ratio," or 1:1.618... And yes, I do use this stuff when I design! :)
